​Ine Lietaert holds a PhD in Social Work (Ghent University), studying the return and reintegration processes of assisted returnees from Belgium to Georgia and Armenia. Following her PhD, she worked as a post-doc researcher within the ERC Childmove project. She currently works as an assistant professor at the United Nations University – CRIS in Bruges and at the Department of Social Work and Social Pedagogy. Her main research topics relate to return migration, migration governance, reintegration processes, assisted return, unaccompanied refugee minors, migration trajectories, wellbeing, belonging, and international social work. She is a research member of the Centre for the Social Study of Migration and Refugees (CESSMIR) and teaches International Social Work at Ghent University. She guides PhD students investigating processes of return and reintegration, unaccompanied refugee minors, and internal migration and displacement. She is currently involved as a co-supervisor of the different PhD researches in the ChildMove project.
